My best friend is so awesome.

Well Friends,  I'm back.  Its funny,  I call all of the kids at school "friends".   "hello, friend, how was your day?"  I consider anyone who has read past the first sentence a friend.    So, I'm glad you are back and ready to revisit the life of Boo Boo.

I'm ready for some new adventures too.    I have great news for a giveaway happening in the NEAR future.   My very best friend in the WHOLE world is an incredible artist.  I mean we've shared the love of art and creativity since we were in elementary school.  Often times she is the only one that understands the frustrations with carbon copy artists, or things that are overly trendy.   We can be a bit snarkey, and hilarious (probably only to ourselves).    We've come to the very distinct conclusion that no longer should we worry about what the other people are doing,  we need to just step it up and do the things that we are great at and people will notice.   It may sound a little conceded, but let me explain:

If you visit my best friend, Aleida's, facebook page,  Aleida Foulk Fine Art & Photography,  you will notice something different about her.  It is natural, it is real, and its reflective of the classically trained artist that she is.   Her work truly speaks for itself and I've seen this talent grow.  I feel like a proud sister, but at the same time, if I never even met her, I would be able to pick up on just how special her 'outcomes' are.   There is no one way to categorize her works.   She does oil paintings,  rubber stamp making, photography, water colors, drawings, and murals.   You name it and she can do it.  That is what makes her pieces so special.  Each one is better than you could have EVER imagine it.   One of the most special bonds we share is photography.   There is something to be said for people who can seamlessly move about the room and take pictures in similar styles, and be able to photograph a wedding in a cohesive manner.   It is some of my fondest memories of photography with my best friend, sweating, laughing, and clinking beers with the groomsman (and sometimes the bridesmaids.)   She can go from photographing a family, to trying to wrangle a 2 year old into smiling naturally in a snap.    Did I mention that she is a teacher?   One of the best teachers that I know.  She is creative in her style of teaching, she laughs off the bad days, and challenges herself to become better.   I could write about my best friend for days because she is just that great, but what I want to say the most is how much I have seen her blossom in the past 3 or so years.    She has gone from 0-60 in her "art-ing" and her works are more mind-blowingly good each time she shares one with me.   She has gone from doing her thing on her own time, to sharing her talents with those around her, and the results are breathtaking.

Chase- 8 months  by Aleida Foulk Photography

One of my FAVORITE paintings by Aleida Foulk

This is just so cool, I can't evennnnnnnnn
As you can see, her talents are far beyond the norm.   There are so many more examples of awesomeness but I can't share them all.   Be sure to like her facebook page and go to her photography website  or her personal art website

So what about me, well-- I certianly don't have the same talents that she has, but I can do some stuff!    I'm really into murals, cartooning, lettering, photography, painting and fabrics..... recently I decided to 'play' with some of chase's old onesies... Here are the results:
I really love the richness of the pink and orange onesie.   These were merely testers to see if the dye would hold and how they would look so I used a variety of techniques on them using dyes and bleach...They are pretty cute, but I think I like them better plain (just dyed, no lettering)   So I might dabble in some fabric dying in the near future...and I'll let you know my results.

But I also play the photography game which I'm getting to enjoy more and more!   Recently, I've done photos of some babies....like tiny BABY babies.... and its something that I'm learning to hone in on.

like.....are you kidding me?  How cute is this?
Different baby, same sweetness.
All these babies melt my heart!    I cannot believe how lucky I am to do this on 'the side'  (besides parenting, working my full time job, and taking care of my house).   It brings me joy to know I get to capture people's  family moments forever.

Its not easy.  Both Aleida and I have had our share of stressful photography moments.....( ie. trying to photoshop people's eyes open when they blink = disaster.)  BUT-- I wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world.  We've been able to really get into a good groove with photography in our own respective social circles, but never are in competition for 'business' because it just extra for us,  we really just like doing it.  When the opportunities arise to do wedding together, we love it, because its a whole day (I mean like 12-14 hours) of non stop running and clicking and sometimes barking orders. We do end up having a fantastic time with the wedding party, eating good food, and being surrounded by very happy and very drunk people....which is fun in itself.    More times than not, we get dragged onto the dance floor, which is kind of odd.  We must look like the type of photographers that just are having as good of a time as the guests.   I recall dancing to a lot of latin music on the Chautauqua Bell in the middle of the lake on a wedding that we did.  One of the best times of my life--- but also really awkward....because if you know me, you know I don't like to dance.  Being the photographer for a wedding is a very odd position in itself.    You are the only one moving and standing and causing a general ruckus during the ceremony,  you are in people's grills, watching bridesmaids get dressed, take a bride to the bathroom...There are a lot of bras strewn about, and feminine products being passed around.... then you go take photos of the boys....and the boys are always chugging beers, and then giving you a beer to drink,  or a shot...     I've been a counselor during dress malfunctions, I've been a guinea pig looking for important people, I've been a pharmacy, giving out Tylenol and I've been a babysitter for rogue children.   The role of wedding photographer assistant is one that wears many hats.   This is why each wedding is so different and so stressful....in a good way.

Well, folks.  You've come to an end of another blog post by me.   Please visit back for part two of this post in which we will be giving away something FUN from Aleida Foulk Fine Art!   You DO NOT want to miss that opportunity!!

Until later,
Me
