Whiffy Bean Bags Review and Giveaway!

I'm so excited to be writing this  review for Whiffy Bean Bags.    I'm not sure how I originally came across them, but I am so glad that I did.

Leah Warson is the owner of Whiffy Bean Bags.   What IS a "Whiffy Bean Bag", you ask?  Well, simply put, its a variety of natural and delightful smelling materials sewn inside of a fabric bag.  You can heat them or cool them for taming a variety of ailments or injuries.  They come in a variety of sizes, and most importantly, colors and prints.   Leah fills the bean bags with flax seed, dried herbs, and either lavender, peppermint, or spearmint scents, among others.   When I interviewed Leah on the history of Whiffy Bean bags she told me how the company started:

"Back in 2006, I was staring at all the lavender we had in our backyard and I wondered what I could do with it all! I spent quite some time researching how to take care of it, prune it and dry it. As my first batch was drying, I pondered what I would do with all this dried lavender. I decided to make sachets. I bought a sewing machine and taught myself how to sew! I did not want to make your traditional sachets though with the linen white fabric and stitched flowers! I wanted them to be fun, colorful, kid friendly. So Whiffy Bean Bags was born!..."

One day, I saw Leah post on the Whiffy Beans Bags Facebook Page asking if anyone was fluent in photo editing or graphic design.  Since I do edit photos and dabble in a little bit of graphic design, I commented on her post.    She wondered if I used the Rhonna Designs App , which I do!   I was able to design her a giveaway post on her instagram account and we started forming a friendship over facebook.  I mentioned to her that I had a blog and if she would be interested in working with me, to which she happily accepted.   As a thank you for designing the giveaway art,  she sent me two Whiffy's (medium and regular 'ice') to review.

Leah was kind enough to give me specific directions for use, and a complete product description and care.
"...Regular Whiffy Bean Bags can be used as sachets and put in drawers, cars, purses, diaper bags, closets, toy boxes or really anywhere! Whiffy Ices can be cooled in the freezer or heated in the microwave and can be used for sores muscles, headaches, boo boos or just carrying around. The Whiffy Smoo is perfect for cuddling with and even better because you can warm the Whiffy Ice inside for added comfort. All Whiffys are spot clean only.
I use high quality fabrics and offer a great selection of adult and child friendly fabrics. All Whiffy Ices have flannel on one side for additional softness. I use flax seed in my Ices as I find it is the least likely to “cook” over time and provides a fun sensory feeling to the touch."

Lastly, I asked Leah what the future aspirations were for Whiffy bean bags.  She told me " I would love to have a strong presence online with a stand alone website and would ideally love to sell Whiffys in brick and mortar stores."

Now for the review:

Many of you don't know that while Leah and I were collaborating for this very giveaway,  I had to go to the emergency room and they found a complex ovarian cyst.  I've never had that experience before and it was so painful.  One of the doctor's recommendations was to put heat on the area to sooth the shooting pains.   As soon as I got home from the hospital, I heated up the Whiffy that I was sent, and put it on the area.   I was filled with the sweet scent of peppermint which also eased my fears of the ovarian cyst diagnosis.   (peppermint is one of my FAVORITE scents)
Let me tell you, the flax seed and peppermint combo (the hearts print) was the perfect size to ease the pain I was feeling.  I was able to get a good 20 minutes of decent heat before re-heating and even then it was still warm.   Leah also sent along an Elmo whiffy Ice for Boo Boo's, 'boo-boos' and we keep it frozen for any goose eggs, bumps or bruises.    I would HIGHLY recommend getting a whiffy ice (or a few) for your children with their favorite characters and prints.  The soothing scents will calm your child after a boo boo happens and their favorite character will give them comfort.   I've found that the Whiffy bean bags are better than traditional "rice or corn" bags because they are less likely to "cook"  ie. smell like sweaty gym socks,  and they don't develop hot spots.  I was able to use the whiffy on the go and it has retained its scent well!  Overall, its a great product and I will continue to use it for all of my ailments!

Puppy-cat has claimed this...... maybe Leah should make catnip bean bags!!!

perfect size for many ailments
