Tailored Tushies Review and Giveaway!

I'm a HUGE fan of cloth diapers.  I mean, I study them, I buy them, I test them, I take pictures of them....all for the purpose of catching my son's bodily functions.   The thing is, unless you are a cloth diapering parent, you do not know the joy of putting on a freshly washed CD on your child.  Their fluffy little buns wiggling around the house practically brings you more joy than their first word.....

.....About a year ago I did a review for another diaper that I was just trying out, which was in a "hybrid fitted" style.  Before that, we always used pockets.  Stuffing diapers was a nightly task in our house...until we tried a hybrid fitted.

For those of you who don't know what a hybrid fitted diaper is, here are the qualities:

* Most are homemade or from WAHM (work at home mom's)
* Colorful, unique, and many times are customizable
* Several layers of natural fabric for extra fluffiness
*Often made with a knit (stretchy) or woven (not stretchy) outer, and a fleece/cotton velour, or bamboo inner.  Can also be made with fleece or windpro (water resistant) outer.
*endless patterns and designs
* Hard to find, pop-culture, or preorder fabrics are often offered by WAHMs that make HF diapers
*diapers are designed without a layer of PUL or waterproof fabric, and are 'meant' to be worn with a cover
*However, Most high quality WAHM hybrid fitteds can be worn for several hours without leaking
*Because of the natural fibers and fabrics, many knit HF diapers will fade and wear over time.
*The quality, structure, design and feel of these diapers make them unique to the cloth diaper community.   They often come in adjustable weight ranges, and WAHMs will often use snaps as the enclosure versus velcro.

Today's review is for Tailored Tushies Hybrid Fitted Diaper!

The owner of Tailored Tushies is Valerie Postel.   She told me about how she started Tailored Tushies in October 2013:   " My love of cloth diapering my own son turned into a love of sewing cloth diapers and wanting to share my creations with the world!  I began sewing diapers [for my own little one] and once I perfected them and was comfortable and pleased with the quality I began selling them online in my hyenacart store."

Valerie sells a number of different items and I stumbled across her website following a different giveaway.   I was impressed by the selection, fabric choices and the overall style of her products.    Some of the products that she sells are: Hybrid fitted cloth diapers (one size and newborn), AI2 cloth diapers (one size and newborn), grown with me baby yoga pants (sizes: newborn, 1, 2), t-shirts (sizes: newborn-5T), one size hooded bath towels, wash cloths and burp cloth sets.

First of all,  Tailored Tushies gets an A+ in my book for customer service.  I messaged Valerie about custom diapers that I have been dreaming up, but was unlucky in 'earning' a custom spot on other WAHM groups.   She replied immediately, and also ordered the fabric that I wanted to be sure it was exactly what I needed.  She was in touch with me throughout the whole process.  The more I looked through her albums and pictures, the more I wanted.   I ended up ordering my two custom diapers, then added a pair of the grow with me baby yoga pants.....and then a couple days later, I ordered a third  diaper with robots print.   I received ALL the items with SUCH a quick turn around!!

Valerie told me about what makes her products unique.  She says "My diaper pattern is my own drafted pattern. I use two different tshirt patterns (charlie tee and jocole) that the customer can choose from to best suit their child. The pants are the maxaloons pattern from Max&Meena. I use only the best quality fabric and materials available for all of my products. Diaper shells are typically constructed with a knit or woven outer, hidden fleece or PUL, inner cotton velour, organic bamboo velour or minky. Soakers and doublers are constructed with absorbent heavy organic bamboo fleece and either cotton velour, organic bamboo velour or minky. Tshirts and pants I use knits for a nice stretchy fit. Towels and burp cloths are made with woven fabrics to withstand the roughness of washing alongside towels. I am also CPSIA compliant to ensure the safety of you baby/child while using my products."

Onto the review!

Fit:    Boo Boo is very skinny...just like his dad.  He weighs about 27 pounds and is almost 2.   He has hardly any chunk.   When we first put on the diaper, we noticed how trim it is.   It fits almost as snug as disposables.   The cut of this diaper is very unique.  It almost lets a little booty out.(see pictures)  I noticed that this design REALLY helps with range of movement.  Other hybrid fitted's tend to be a bit bulky, causing your little one to crawl or walk like they have a bag of potatoes in their diaper.   This Diaper is completely different.  I love the knit and the overlapping snap feature, as well as the fold down rise.   BooBoo wears the diaper snapped all the way across and overlapped which tells me that this diaper can truly fit from 7-35 pounds.   I use the fold down rise to arrange soakers in different configurations, which is why i LOVE having that option.

Materials:  The product materials are amazing.   The knit and cotton velour combinations make a stretchy, soft, cloud-like diaper.

Liquid and Solid Test:   Boo Boo tested all 3 diapers.  After the diapers were fully prepped-I put the diapers on boo boo.   I then let him play for 2  hours while I photographed him for the review and let him crawl, play, run and generally be a 22 month old.   After 2 hours he was still dry on the outside and slightly damp right in the front. He was still happy and comfortable.   I put the next diaper on and about 5 minutes later, his face turned red.  "I, poop-ia"  "yes, I smell you, hunny"  I changed the second diaper (which was dry) and it contained all the poop.  The nice thing about cotton velour is that the poop doesn't seem to get stuck in it like it does with fleece or micro-fiber.   The diaper rinsed off beautifully....I kinda was tempted to put it back on him....but scientific process calls for accuracy.

Overnight test:     We rarely cloth diaper overnight.  It just is something that we never have done.  I will do it rarely on the weekends so I'm not skilled in this area.  However, I did think that the overnight test was awesome.  I put boo boo down about 8:45. He went from 8:45pm-3:00am before waking up wet.   That is a long time for a cloth diaper, especially that has no waterproof shell.  The diaper was soaked, but his jammies were just a little damp.  I think he woke up because he isn't used to feeling wet overnight.  I was so impressed...my diapers with PUL don't last a quarter of the time that this one does.

Quality:      This diaper is top notch.   The fabrics are high quality, sewn with precision, and the choices are so cute!   I just can't get enough  of the adorable-ness of this diaper.  I also think that the multi-color snaps just add the perfect touch.

Robots Diaper with two-tone color and surged legs.

Grow with me:
We also got a really cute pair of customized 'grow with me' baby yoga pants.  I asked Valerie if she could do knee patches and make them a little bit wider.  She did BEAUTIFULLY!  The concept of pants that can fit from ages 1-5 is just an incredible deal in my eyes.... I loved these...that are so cute!  I think we will wear them all the time and probably to ever patriotic event or Buffalo Bills Sunday.  haha!

The following are pictures from the official review period.

These are comfy, mom!
I love all of my NEW Tailored Tushies!!!

Finally, I asked Valerie what the future holds for Tailored Tushies, and she said " I hope to expand into making dresses and more clothing options very soon. I also am currently in the works of adding a new product to the line which is a super trim and extremely absorbent sized and one size side snapping diaper featuring rolled leg elastic. Overall, I just want to be able to grow with and cater to my customers wants and needs to the best of my ability and provide them with quality products."      I don't think any of that will be a problem Valerie!  You totally rock!!!

  1. I am so happy you are doing a WAHM giveaway! I have never ordered from tailored tushies, but I will be as soon as I can! I hope I can win this diaper for a friend! She just had a little girl in January, and when I began my cloth diapering journey, she selflessly gave me a few extra's she had! (she has an older son, too!)
